FIRE MOSS :
Fire Moss is a collaboration between David Parker (double-bass, electronics) and K.L. Sealegs (synthesizers, pedals). Formed in November, 2012, the band is based in Kingston, Ontario, Canada / traditional Haudenosaunee & Anishinaabe Lands. The duo performs live improvisational soundscapes, blending elements of synthetic drones, melodic dirges and freaked-out noise. To date, the band has performed alongside Steve Hauschildt, Le Révélateur, Drainolith, Aerosol Constellations, Holzkopf, Nick Kuepfer and many more.
Fred Bazil (tenor sax)
Stéphane Diamantakiou (contrabass)
Fred Bazil’s tenor can be heard in the current quartet L’Appel du Vide, or on Matana Roberts’ well-received Coin Coin Chapter 1: Gens de Couleurs Libres (2011). Fred also performs solo improvisations, of which a recent recording is set to come out on a collection of solo works produced by Howl! Arts Collective. He has played in NUDE quartet and with large ensembles such as Regards sur le 7e Feu. Mindful of developing improvised music’s prospects and community, he founded ImprovContact, a free monthly collective improvisation music workshop he organizes since 2007.
Stéphane Diamantakiou was born in Marseille. Beginning his musical life as an autodidact, success with his early groups and compositions led him to study double bass performance and jazz at the Aix-en-Provence Conservatory of Music, from which he graduated with a First Prize in 2006. After various experiences from classical orchestra to street theatre companies, touring across Europe and sharing the stage with bands such as Gong or Art ensemble of Chicago, he decided to move to Montreal. Since the summer of 2011, he has co-founded several projects, including L’Appel du Vide, the Eguiluz-Diamantakiou duo, and is active with the string quartet Rubedo’Ro, as well as the avant-rock trio Feefawfum.
David Parker (contrebasse)
Stefan Christoff (piano)
WIRE TONES ep features David Parker on contrebasse and Stefan Christoff on piano, and is a release inspired by the struggle against the current expansion of the prison industrial complex under the Conservative government in Canada. An instrumental record, the recording features contrabass and piano in duet, harmonizing and dissonant tones that speak to active reflection and heartfelt solidarity.
