Well, this photo essay has solved a mystery which was the question of how the police were able to charge west on Viger street towards Bleury at 22:19… there was a charge down Jeanne-Mance. That divided the entire crowd in three; the first division having happened two minutes earlier with the charge up St-Urbain. I see evidence of a flashbang explosion at Jeanne-Mance; none of the flashbang maps indicate it, and there seems to be no video footage of it, so it seems that therefore there were more flashbang attacks on 5 March than is recorded. Moreover, the crowd was divided in three, the rear ended up rushed up Bleury and headed west. The head of the crowd mostly disintegrated but mostly headed west also, or so I heard, and presumably joined the others in the west which was a more target-rich environment for people determined to break things and there were reports of such there. However, the SPVM sent the cavalry and the bulk of its forces east to deal with those mostly from the middle section of the demonstration who ended up near the park Emilie Gamelin after having been driven east on de la Gauchetiere. Most footage out there is from the east. The Love Police were in the east, and that video with the chronology and the counting up clock also was nothing but St-Urbain followed by eastern footage. According to mainstream media, the western demonstrators were dispersed at about 11 pm… but then again we must take that with a grain of salt. I wonder if there were flashbang attacks in the west. If there were, they do not show up on that flashbang map. The SPVM may have concentrated on eastern demonstrators because some of those people fired fireworks at them on St-Urbain and when the SPVM riot squads approached them on Ste-Catherine backed by cavalry there was another pyrotechnics salvo… mostly though they were kids and as for the people who were finally kettled, they were overwhelmingly kids..
The SPVM made a grave mistake in pursuing those who went to the Emilie-Gamelin, and that is because without that, things would probably have been as they were on 26 February when the demonstration was broken up not far from the end point but the demonstrators insisted on making their way there… and when they made it there, and were left alone, they were as peaceful as lambs. So much so that it appeared to be absurd to see the SPVM proclaim an Unlawful Assembly all of a sudden when it wanted to clear Berri street, so quiet and peaceful were the people just milling about talking to each other. Even then it was done in such a manner that caused little incident. On 5 March the police showed up tapping their shields with the cavalry behind them, they were spoiling for a fight that should never have happened. They should not have been surprised to receive those pyrotechnics when they decided to do this… it seems so often to be a matter of having the final word.
